Brewery restoration project lands $100,000 donation
Money will go toward the $1.9 million community effort
POTOSI, Wis. - Contributions to the Potosi Brewery Restoration project keep coming.
On Oct. 10, Martha Ragatz donated $100,000 to the effort. Her husband, Charles, died in 1999 at age 79.
"We lived in Potosi all our married lives," Martha said. "Our kids were all educated in Potosi 's public schools. I like to see the town stay alive. It's as simple as that."

Shoring up an inner wall |
Work is ongoing on the $1.9 million Phase 1 of the project, which calls for new windows, doors and a roof, and shoring up walls. Phase 2 includes the interior construction. Shoring up the walls includes removing loose rock and tuckpointing the stone and brick. Strong walls will support the structure's tresses.
A recent $250,000 commitment from the American Breweriana Association to the Potosi Brewery Foundation is helping make the restoration possible.
