Potosi brewery foundation formed, board elected
POTOSI, Wis. - The Potosi Brewery foundation, a non-profit corporation, has been formed and a board of directors and officers elected.
President is attorney Steve Voglesberg, vice president is Potosi village president Frank Fiorenza, and secretary/treasurer is Sharon Bierman. Additional board members include Denis David, Don David, Gary David, architect Adam Johnson, Bill Schaefer, James Schneider, Mic Walsh and Sharon Adkins Friesen, with additional members to be elected.
The board met on Wednesday, March 15, and approved the following statement of purpose: "The purpose of the corporation is to restore an historic landmark, the Potosi Brewery site, and to reconnect the community to a part of its cultural heritage; it is a further purpose to return the site to the community as a self-sustaining entity by incorporating into the restoration limited commercial development; it is a further purpose to use the site as a tourist attraction of historic interest contributing to the viability of the community; finally, it is a purpose to use the site as an educational center reflecting not only the Potosi community but southwestern Wisconsin and the tri-state areas."
In addition, advisory/work groups were formed into three categories: development and construction; finance; and promotion and marketing. Anyone interested in being a part of any of these groups should call Bill Schaefer at 763-2111.
The next scheduled meeting is May 17 at the old Potosi bottling plant across from the brewery buildings on South Main Street. The public is invited to attend.
